Know Charlie Woods: Son Of Golf Star Tiger Woods

The boys team from The Benjamin School won the FHSAA Class A state title on Wednesday, and 14-year-old Charlie was a member of the winning squad. A state championship is one of the few honours that Tiger, his father, has not won in his golf career.

Charlie completed two rounds at the Mission Inn Resort in Florida with scores of 78 and 76. His five-man team won their fourth state championship, while he placed 26th in the individual standings.

Just like his father, the younger Woods has been playing golf since he was a baby. He is now old enough to compete alongside his father in major tournaments. Charlie and Tiger Woods are playing together again in the PNC Championship this year after competing together for the first time in 2020 and finishing as runners-up the following year.

This year, Woods has been in the top 20 in six of the eight events he has played on the Junior PGA South Florida Tour. This year, he is ranked 71st in the Boys 13-18 Medalist Tour with an average score of 76.67. Woods is clearly at the younger end of the age range, so that’s a good mark right now.

Charlie and Tiger have participated in the PNC Championship together, which is an event where family members compete with significant champions. In 2020, they made their tournament debut and placed eighth.

“I don’t think words can describe it,” the 15-times major champion said of competing alongside his son. “Just the fact that we were able to have this experience together, Charlie and I, it’s memories for a lifetime.”

Tiger has also counseled his kid to use an outsider as a model for his game.

“[I told him] don’t copy my swing. Copy Rory [McIlroy]’s,” Woods said on NBC last year. “That’s one of the things my dad instilled in me, is that you should be able to balance and hold your finish until the ball rolls and stops. You can swing as hard as you want, but you need to have balance.”
